A Trident of Updates!

First off, Welcome Denizen Kane to the blog, here is your gift!

I wanted to put more white or cream into the bill, but it was too late for that, so enjoy your really green green-back!  Want to try out a session of Crimea but don't have the cash to fund the Tsar's armies? Then go to Juniorgeneral.org and search that theatre / era of warfare for top quality paper miniatures!  I personally modify them and print them out and then glue them onto mdf.  Here is an example of some 16th century Polish Winged hussars...(no I'm not Polish, but I like the imagery)

It's a 1.9mb picture so my apologies if it slowed down the viewing of this page.

And as promised, here are some more photos of my recent miniatures...
Ottoman Delis and Jacobite Rebellion French Infantry

And finally...my synopsis or proposal for publication to Osprey was knocked back!  They want some more Historical pieces to balance out their non-historical jaunt they went on so...I guess I will update the blog with that Fury of the Arena gear...until I think of my next idea.

Wait a minute, just thought of one!  Now, no I'm not stepping on Alex Buchel's toes but I reckon a SAGA variation of Roman times would be cool, so much so I will try to make this happen!  I'm in it for the terrain and campaign play more than anything!

So yeah! Welcome Denizen Kane once more, I hope you like it, drop a comment to tell if you are impressed or not!

ONE MORE THING! I almost forgot, get onto wildfiregames.com(?) and get '0 AD' it's like Age of Empires, in fact a lot of people who did that do this, it is awesome!  I cannot stop playing it, but it is in it's Alpha stage so don't expect a finished game!  With the recent AoE 2 re-release / HD remake not impressing me I thought it would be cool to spread the word of 0 AD especially since they have a version for mac that was EASY to install!

TRUST ME! yes that was an old-school wrestling reference of Jake the Snake Roberts!

Welcome Tim!

Finally, I am getting to be productive again!
Here is your gift Tim, I hope you like it.

Drop me a comment to tell me what you think, should I keep this practice up or give it away?

PS To Sander, I forgot the historical explanation to your gift...with you being the 10th follower, I looked in my Waterloo book by Geoff Wooten and Osprey to see any regiment numbering 10th, I had found one Dutch Belgian regiment.  They were in the 1st Corps, 3rd Dutch Belgian Division under the command of Chasse.  The story goes that the French 1st/3rd Chasseurs pushed back Halkett but where in turned broken by artillery fire and a charge by Chasse.

Anyway, next time you see an update will be for some 1:72nd Ottoman Delis made from Zvezda conversions and maybe some terrain for a 28mm Dark Age Skrimish game.

Welcome to my newest follower: Sander

Now don't be shocked if I gush a little here, I've seen Sander's site: http://modusregmagnimomenti.blogspot.com.au/ for quite some time now, I think I first looked at it about 5 years ago(?) when I was getting into 1:72nd in a true modest sort of way, anyway...

Welcome Sander, I am pleased to have you as my 10th follower...the mind races at what I shall make for you, give me the week and there WILL be something here by next Monday, I'll drop you a comment when it is ready.  I'll give you a hint it might be something Napoleonic...then again it might not be...

I hope you like the blog and of course please feel free to look over the back-log of entries and drop me a comment anytime.  I do apologize for my lack of entries within the last 2 months- learning to drive takes up time!

And in true Sander style...
Listening to at the moment:
My dad flossing his teeth, and Corrosion of Conformity 'Wiseblood'

Keep an eye on this space!

24/4/2013 PART 2

Well Sander, it is finally here, your welcoming gift.  The story goes I was digging around Waterloo and found this paper lodged around the local townships...

And for those who cannot read Dutch here is the translation:
There was a soldier among them who proved his worth, Private Sander van Straeten advanced the colours and pushed back the French the way they came.  It is my recommendation that he be promoted to Sergeant of the 10th.

Welcome to the blog Sander you are the 10th follower

I hope you like it, it is something small and meaningless but I enjoy doing them!

Not to take the spotlight away from Sander but I've just looked on my 'followers' list and as former WCW Wrestler Goldberg would say... "Tim and Denizen Kane...you're next!"

Last thing!  Osprey just got back into contact with me to say that my Fury of the Arena idea is great however they are looking for more historical settings to fill the gaps made by their recent non-historical settings published...shucks!  Back to the drawing board.  Oh well, looks like I'll update it on the blog next week, I've already got a page or two more for it.

Get ready for the Fury...

Let me place a seed within your minds...

Imagine a cybernetic gladiator, a Secutor 3000 powering up as he takes to the arena and charges the enemy robot.  The energy blade slices at the much larger ogrish enemy and cuts into the thick armour plating.  As the larger of the two clumsily swings his hammer hands around to swat the Secutor away, the adept gladiator finds a weak spot within the back of the goliath and strikes!  Sparks fly and oily fluid starts to flow from the wound, as the Secutor is thrown away by a rebuking goliath, it steps forth and finds it hard to make ground on the Secutor.  As the wound leaks profusely a trap sprouts from the steel ground- it's a spike that spurts flame and ignites the oil from the Goliath blowing apart the bot into many pieces.  It seems victory goes to the Secutor...but what's this, as the robot is celebrating the den cage doors open and lion constructs pour forth surrounding the lone gladiator...

It's an idea I have and have actually submitted it to Osprey Publishing (yes that Osprey!) for judgement.  I'll be honest, I'm terribly concerned and worried but any sort of feedback is good, even if they don't see promise in it, then I shall put it up online for all of you to hopefully enjoy!

I hate to put things like this in my entries but I think I should,
All original ideas pertaining to Fury of the Arena (c) copyright
It just makes me sound like such an old man but I don't want this stuffed up!

More on this later!  Maybe I will start another page within this blog for its content.
Gee I hope they like it!

Feel free to drop any comments, you will be accredited if you wish with any ideas that fit.

Thanks once again for the following, it makes me happy to see this is not a waste of time.
Any requests or anything at all!  Please feel free to drop a comment.

PART 2: The one you have been waiting for!

For Anth, my 8th follower I decided this might suffice!  I present Anth Eglebert the ECW Officer, 1:32nd Scale of course!

I hope you like it, Sorry for giving the figure such a comical last name!  Drop me a comment.

For Ernie my 9th follower...I just could not resist making this...

Drop me a comment and keep following the blog!

And finally a note to all, I will be going on holiday soon with the one I love, so I will be gallivanting around with her for a week, wish us luck!  I'll be checking my inbox occassionaly so don't think I've forgotten about the blog, but I will be back in earnest in about 2 weeks with some ideas for a Mordheim campaign run in a jail island sort of thing or maybe some Boxer Rebellion figures or even some 28mm 1672 figures?  I'll keep you all guessing.

PS I'd really like to start writing some fiction for the blog maybe even an RPG game sequence to inspire myself and others of course!

Welcome jacksarge, my latest follower

G'day "jacksarge" from the blog!  My name is David and I am defiantly doing something Vietnam related for you, maybe a bit of a postcard with napalm! I might even start on it in the next couple of days.

I hope you like what you see and feel free to drop me a comment and even feel so brash as to challenge me to a Vietnam building contest!  I warn you, I fancy myself as a bit of a palm tree aficionado!

Here are the latest shots of my Vietnam (15mm) bench
Of course with thanks to Mick from: http://micksmetalmodels.com/ for supplying my recent batch of models (an American PBR and some VC).  On a side note, the PBR is quite nice, about 80-100mm long, it looks great on my oval base, I can't wait to paint it.  BUT I'm stuck on the colour of the water,
I don't want to do it blue yet I don't want to do it to brown and then it will start to match in with the drab green of the craft itself!  I suppose if this is the only complaint I have, then I'm doing ok.

SIDE NOTE #2: I play Battlefield Vietnam and really like it, I installed the v1.2 patch which really stabilises it, and then I got...the Eve of Destruction add-on...wow, it's awesome!  They have programmed it so there are NVA / VC mortar patrols who specifically sit atop a hill and bomb you!  This is evident on the remake of Khe Sahn which is quite fun to play, my only criticism is that sometimes the bots just get stuck and the action slows to a halt usually half way through the map on some of the new levels.

Ok, here are the pics I promised:
Alternate view of Checkpoint Charlie mounted on a CD sized MDF base

Yes, the stick can be moved to be placed vertically near the sandbags

My forest so far...

Supply dump and Long Bunker

Scenario Set-up: set notes below*
*Welcome to the Jungle!..hopefully Guns n Roses wont sue me for using that name!
1: VC/NVA out of the jungle to try and neutralize the bunker vs fortified Americans
2: March onward to the checkpoint meeting American spotters and resistance
3: Bust through and secure / bomb the American Supply base, bonus points for the amount of bases that 'slink back into the jungle' ie. escape the board before the American Armoured Convoy arrives!

Almost forgot to add in the original bunker that is now painted!

The PBR has an added flag pole made from thin wire

The Bunker can hold x1 40-44mm base of men

Hope you like it jacksarge, in fact to all of my followers: Happy New Year!

JACKSARGE, WELCOME TO THE WAR!
regards David

Real life can be so intrusive!

G'day bloggers! David here once again...after what seems like forever, I return with some news, pictures and my usual list of excuses for not painting as much as I should or used to.

With the festive season on me, I wanted to do something special, I usually spoil my family but this year I am lucky enough to be sharing my season with someone very special, she knows who she is!

So, with that being said, here are some pictures of my recent times:

Don't worry, I'm NOT turning into a Zombie! Let's just say she's passionate...

Home made wedges, 3 cuts of red-meat and beer...what else is there?

The prep-work begins in earnest!  Yes, I can cook...sort of!
So now my ego has been seen to, here are some ideas and thoughts I have been having...
Under the Christmas tree: apart from a day with the family I think I actually have some LOTR Lego, yes I know I am 27 but it's SO cool!  I would like to take this chance to wish everyone a happy Christmas, from the blogs that I follow to the ones that follow me, thank you and have a great time over the festive season Sam's Mini World, Dalauppror, Ubique Matt, Lou's Toy Soldier's, MacPhee Miniature Men, Saxon Dog and Ophelia Overdose (don't let the children Google the last one!)

I think this is one of the three boxes, it is a grand sight!

Something my true love in return for her love (The Hobbit LEGO)

Modelling: I have tried quite hard to get into it again, but alas it has evaded me.  I have been working on adding some crews to my re-purposed Matchbox Cars (HaT 1:72nd Russian Tank Crews do the trick!) but I couldn't bring myself to paint more than an undercoat!  A Very British Civil War is awesome looking, it just would seem cool to play- maybe in 2013?

Next I tried my hand at my 15th Century Huns vs Ottomans, converted so great looks Delis cavalry from Persian Horsemen and Russian heads with furry caps and even some Hun Knights with lance couched- but they are waiting for an undercoat!

Lastly, I will end with two things: 1: Vietnam!  I will be sourcing some 15mm 'Nam figures from Skytrex or Flashpoint Miniatures and see where this takes me, I enjoyed playing Battlefield Vietnam on the CPU and watched We Were Soldiers, I just feel comfortable with this level of technology as it were.

Future Projects: Turning some Schleich animal figures into some mean mothers!  Google it by all means, but basically it is a German company who make scale Children's toys / models of animals of ALL types, everything from Horses to Dinosaurs to even Barbarians on Elephants!
I have a crocodile and a tiger which I will be making into something quite sinister for my brother's RPG setting at which I am not at liberty to discuss!  Sorry, but I will try to post some WIP shots of this project to try and get me back into the game so to say.

 http://www.schleich-s.com/

Merry Christmas Noah, from Uncle David!

410mm sqaure.  Could be used for larger scale war-gaming 1:32nd?

Go ahead, buy a forest of these pre-painted beauties!

Ah Sven Nordbeard on my dash-board...soon, yes very soon!

I am SO turning this into a war-elephant!

However you practice the season, please be safe and respect each other, as my Muslim taxi driver said today (G'day Ahmed!) "you only get to live once, make it count" quite a sensible and cool guy who totally broke them modern stereo-type.  I'm not a racist or anything like that, don't get my words confused!  Merry Christmas all, see you in 2013.  I've changed the template of my blog today so join and stay up to date with what's happening and become a member for special 'thank-you' creations.

News!

Sorry for the long overdue from the blogging world, real world stuff got in the way of the fun stuff!

Sam, here is some gear for Alban like we talked about, I hope he and you like it.
Drop me a comment and tell me what you think also if Alban liked them.

For the rest of this update I'd like to show you all what I have been working on...
A spice rack for a prospective mother in-law!
It turned out alright, a few things I might do differently next time but I like it.

Here are some hanger plaques for my girlfriend (the stained one) and her sister (white one) I got out one day and went for it with the router, had a few tries at it but eventually got it working.

My collection of DUST figures, so far!  (From fishpond.com.au)
My review of them:  LOVE the heavy machinery (the mechs!) these are awesome
the figures are great as well with only a couple of bits I did not like, a top product 9/10

Here is a card I did up for my girlfriend's brother, I think it's cheeky enough!

Anyway next update might only come in a week!  I've been wanting to get back into painting and RPG's since the Playstation has been getting next to no use!  (Yeah Sony, I said it's crap!)  Modern day video games just are not that good anymore!  Sorry, I know there are a lot out there that would disagree, if it's a shiny turd ie. awesome graphics etc...it's still a turd.

Toys anyone? A triple header! + Hello Sam!

After what feels like a lifetime away from the blog I'm back!
The real world got in the way of my constant blogging so sorry for that one!
BUT I do have two things in which to share with you all...

For those who are interested, I have finished making a toy-box complete with slow release mechanism! For my (hopefully!) soon to be sister and brother in law!

Oh so many coats of white paint!

The feet were my father's idea, I like them!

W750mm x D300mm x H380mm
I think it should make a good gift as they are expecting in December... and reminding me of December, the best month in the year, I already have my birthday present ordered!

I got it from fishpond.com.au, quite a good site! BUT then realised it was cheaper at thewarstore.com ah hindsight!   Anyway, it's called DUST tactics and is based on a Pablo Parente comic / series.  Imagine an alternate war, it's 1947 and the Axis, Allies and Russians have access to alien technology!  They have made their tanks into mechs and when I say it looks good... I mean it!

Allied forces

Axis Heavy Walker...not on my list...yet!

My favourite!  The Axis

A shot of the pre-primed figures in play

A map to world domination!

Check it our fro yourself at Fantasy Flight Games (just Google that name!)
1:48 scale, so the figures should be around an inch and half or 35mm tall.
Personally I cannot wait!  I also cannot wait for the weekend as I will be attending the Lord of the Rings at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, the ASO (Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, see, I'm not a total bogan!) will be playing the music from the film as the film is playing! I'm going with my girlfriend so it should be even better a-bom-chicka-wow-wow!  Yeah I should stop doing that!

Please check out the following link to see what I'm talking about, there is a small 30 second movie toward the bottom of the screen!

http://www.aso.com.au/products/2012-concerts/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-fellowship-of-the-ring-in-concert

Finally, it was many weeks ago that I promised Sam from http://samsminisworld.blogspot.com.au/ that I would make him a 'follower' gift, well here it is, thanks for following my blog, I hope you like it!  You know those motivational posters etc, well here is mine!
